Hello and Welcome to the LHR.
This week we have had some unexpected events. The Kodiak has had 3 of these events happen to her. We discovered her roof had a crack across the front from side to side. Norm very quickly sealed that up and then proceeded to check inside. This part of the roof is over our closet area in the bedroom. So later this fall Norm will have to take the closets down and repair the roof from the inside. Of course the rain started again and the rain has been a blessing to all of us, however when he went out to check the roof again he found that water was coming in from the seal around the vent in the bathroom and the seal around the antenna in the living room area. That was not a good day. So we’ve had to wait for a rain free morning to be able to get up there and reseal these two areas. Well the rain isn’t suppose to come in till 3 or 4 pm today so he’s headed out to seal these two areas now. When it rains it pours! So they say!
Last month lightening took out our main gate opener so we’ve been opening it by hand. We have the new opener but we need a rain free day for Norm to be able to install it.
We then had mulch delivered to put down in the barn and around the outside but with the rain we’ve not been able to take care of that. Hopefully Thursday of this week we will be able to move that to the barn. With both of us working on moving it hopefully it won’t take to long.
I had plans to rearrange the shed and to write on each case what is in it but it gets so hot in there and with the rain and all (fan needed in the Kodiak) I just moved it to another day. I’ve had to do that with cleaning the Gazebo’s chair cushions as they need to dry in the sun. Don’t get me wrong now, I do love and enjoy the rain and I am very grateful for it however my Daily To-Do List has so many lines through the things I had planned that I am now highlighting in Pink or Orange the ones I need to get done that day. So is the life here on the LHR! However we wouldn’t change a thing unless it was to have the energy and stamina of when we were 20-30-40 years old. Wow, just think what we could get accomplished. I know it’s not going to happen but I can dream can’t I?
This week I did make one of Norm’s favorite breakfast foods. It’s a Gooey Butter Cake. It’s his Mother’s recipe and I thought I would share it with you.
Gooey Butter Cake
Norm’s Mother’s Recipe
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Uses a 9×13 pan (grease and flour the pan)( I use a cooking spray and no flour)
1 pound cake mix (I use a yellow box cake mix)
1 stick margarine, melted
Mix together the above ingredients and spread evenly in your 9×13 pan.
1(8ounce) package of cream cheese room temperature. (softened)
1 pound powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
Blend above ingredients in a blender (I use my Ninja) till smooth.
Pour over the first part in the pan and bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes then take out of oven and sprinkle 3 tablespoons of powdered sugar over the top. I use a half cup of powdered sugar for this step. You can also sprinkle a half cup chopped nuts along with the powdered sugar if you want to at this time. Return to oven and bake at 350 degrees for an additional 30 minutes. Serves 24
Well I need to get off here as I am heading out to the shed to get the Halloween Costume container. We are going to look through it and see if anything catches our fancy. I’ve been looking on-line but so far I haven’t seen anything I like. Wish us luck.
Later I plan to draw out my garden and to figure out my Fall wreaths for the 2 gates and the 2 barns.
I hope all of you have a pleasant afternoon and a peaceful night.
